This Is My Letter To You
This Is My Letter To You
Who are you
what do you hold dear to your heart
where will you be when sirens scream
who will you run to when it’s not a warning
a test or another drill
when you are needed most
and their bodies are mangled
souls are aching for a chance
a choice to live
where do you hide when you need to blend
when they challenge your instinct
that inspires others
to challenge them
which cheek do you turn
blind eye you use when they cry out
“I can’t breathe”
how big is the pill you swallow
when they steal your voice
suppress your God given rights to be heard
to be human
they are choking humanity
are you brave enough to stand
alone
in the firing line
take bullets for your brothers
bare scars for your sisters
because we are all one
will you wave that white flag
put on your blue collar Sunday’s best
because they are relentless
they do not sleep
and I understand you’re exhausted
but they can’t stop
revolutionary’s or revolutions
we are born each day
our drive is propelled by strength
from generations of being repressed
we will rise
rise mourning son
rise for your daughters and mother’s
together we will rise
I am one
But we are many
