BANDITRY
In analyzing the decadence of
a Kingdom, considered strong in its defenses of men and means and feared and
respected in Europe; that It cared a lot
about his people due to the economic, cultural and social conditions, it is not
an easy thing.
Firstly, because we are still
in the middle of the story just passed;
but most of all because at school we were taught concepts deliberately
manipulated in favor of the Piedmontese invaders.
But I still wonder:
Could ever a thousand
mercenaries, bandits and thieves defeat a powerful and well organized Kingdom ?
It is necessary to recognize
the great ability of an unscrupulous politician, such as Cavour,
in being able to bribe with
the money of a loan received, Admirals, High Officers and Servants of the
Kingdom.
He also allowed Garibaldi to
equip himself with a Hungarian Military Legion used to carry out dirty deeds,
repressing outbreaks of popular revolt that agitated Naples and Avellino and
countering post-unification brigandage, with unheard-of ferocity
But this impatience arose
from the increasingly inhumane conditions in which the whole of the SOUTH was
being held.
It was an Italy that was born
from arrogance, from corruption, from the brutality of inhuman actions by
repressing rebel towns with fires and destructions, such as
Bronte,Pontelandolfi, Auletta, Montefalcione etc etc.
Banditry in general was a
very ancient phenomenon, already present in Ancient Rome, up to
post-unification Italy. Neither were peasants, soldiers of the former Kingdom
of Naples, landowners expropriated from their lands.
One of the first was
ANGELO DUCA
defined by B.Croce and by
Eric Holsbawm
""The New Robin Hood""

Brigand,
was
called, contemptuously,
who led reckless life,
sowing around
terror and great fear.
Then the
story
It reevaluated them,
making them Rebels
very ruthless,
but against arrogance
of the Powerful.
They lived outside the law,
which they opposed
courage
because it represented
the brutal dominance,
which
he didn't take into account
of trampled dignity
of poor people.
To
the nobles and the powerful
they carried away all the good
to give to the poor
enough bread.
For a noble ideal of justice
they fought hard till death,
indignant at the wrongs received
and
why forced to live like brigands
to
avoid abuse and terrible vexations
by overbearing gentlemen.
